This is the psychological questionnaire that can measure how empathetic you are.

Having a good sense of empathy is a moral trait that everyone must possess, but in reality, only a few people have such an attitude. If so, how can you really tell if you’re empathetic or not. The Empathy Quotient is the psychological questionnaire that can measure your sense of empathy or your lack thereof. Take the test now.

Empathy is part of being a normal, socially functioning human — the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. But measuring such an intangible trait is not an easy task. The Empathy Quotient (EQ) is all about that. The test is a 60-item questionnaire that seeks to measure a person’s sense of empathy. It was devised in 2004 by psychologists Simon Baron-Cohen and Sally Wheelwright at the Autism Research Center of the University of Cambridge.

This test was created all because of the “precious few instruments for measuring individual differences in this domain,” and ever since, its been an important tool for assessing the level of social impairment in disorders such as autism. However, that doesn’t mean that anyone can’t pass such a test, and with the aid of the good ol’ internet, you can take the self-report test all by yourself.

Oh! How Empathetic

A young woman suffering from depression is consoled by her friend.

Aforementioned, the test is a 60-statement questionnaire that asks you to rank each statement: strongly agree, slightly agree, slightly disagree, or strongly disagree. These statements include items like:

“I am at my best first thing in the morning,” “I don’t consciously work out the rules of social situations,” “I would be too nervous to go on a big rollercoaster,” “I can’t relax until I have done everything I had planned to do that day,” and “I like to do things on the spur of the moment.”

Its all up to you to decide how you’ll rate these statements; and after you rank all the items, the questionnaire scores your answers out of a possible 80 point.

Would You Take The Test?

According to the test, scores of 30 or less indicate a lack of empathy common in people with Autism or Asperger’s syndrome. The higher the score, the greater your empathy. Take the test online right here, and hit “score my answer” at the bottom to check out your results.
